East Meets West: Buddhism in the United States is a four part series of one hour radio shows featuring the voices of more than 50 people including: His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, Allen Ginsberg, Diane DiPrima, Robert Thurman, Ane Pema Chodron, Sogyal Rinpoche, and many others. The documentary is narrated by Richard Gere, and can be aired in its entirety or in segments (59 minutes each). The series was co-produced by Sue Supriano and Pamela Michael.

Program 1 traces the origins and spread of Buddhism throughout the world and gives brief descriptions of the varieties of Buddhism and their relevance to contemporary life.

Program 2 examines the influx of Buddhist thought in the U.S. from the 19th century to the present.

Program 3 addresses questions about what Buddhism is; i.e. a philosophy or a religion? It also examines the striking correlation between Buddhism and Native Amerian belief systems.

Program 4 describes what different Buddhist practioners do and why, using a rich audio feast of festivals, rituals, chanting, and other ambiance.
